The BioOptics Core Facility of the Gregor Mendel Institute of Molecular Plant Biology (GMI), Institute of Molecular Biotechnology (IMBA), and Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) is seeking a highly motivated, full-time Microscopy Specialist with a focus on Multiphoton Intravital Microscopy (m/f/d, full-time).
As the BioOptics Core Facility expands its portfolio, we are seeking a microscopy specialist with focus on multiphoton intravital microscopy who will both establish this specialized modality and strengthen our core team's expertise across the facility's comprehensive range of advanced imaging techniques.
The BioOptics Core Facility supports an international community of 36 research groups and 450 scientists at the IMP, IMBA, and GMI as well as scientists from the Vienna BioCenter and beyond. We provide expert services in flow cytometry, microscopy, and image analysis, utilizing state-of-the-art instrumentation and advanced software. Key responsibilities
Establish and integrate our new commercial multiphoton intravital microscopy system into the facility's workflow
Provide comprehensive user support for MP-IVM applications, from initial consultation through data acquisition
Design and innovate custom sample holders, accessories, and workflows that enable seamless exchange between specimen types and experimental approaches
Support experimental design by working closely with researchers to translate biological questions into optimized imaging strategies
Expand the microscopy team's expertise by offering training and support across the facility's diverse portfolio of advanced imaging techniques and assisting with instrument maintenance
Key requirements
Strong background in Biophysics or any related field
Thorough knowledge and understanding of advanced microscopy technologies
Expertise and practical experience in multiphoton intravital microscopy
Passion for technology development and innovation
Self-organized, structured, and reliable working style within a team environment
Excellent command of English (spoken and written) is required; German skills are an asset
Enthusiastic, friendly, collaborative mindset and the ability to interact professionally with facility users
What we offer

The yearly gross salary starts from € 68.000,- depending on qualification and experience.
The position is open immediately and is initially limited to one year with a strong intention to extend.
