Diana Pinheiro featured in Portuguese ‘Women in Science’ book

07 Mar 2025

IMP Group Leader Diana Pinheiro is featured in a Women in Science book as part of a project by the awareness raising initiative Ciência Viva, which honours Portuguese women scientists. The latest volume of the project’s book series will be launched on International Women’s Day, 8 March, at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento in Lisbon.

Diana Pinheiro, IMP Group Leader since 2022, will be featured in the ‘Women in Science’ project, organised by Ciência Viva. The project celebrates the contributions of Portuguese women scientists across various fields.

Launched in 2015, Women in Science includes a photography exhibition and a book series highlighting over 200 researchers with Portuguese ties whose work has significantly impacted science and technology. The project aims to recognise their achievements, inspire future generations, and promote gender equality in research. The latest volume will feature Diana Pinheiro and will be launched on International Women’s Day, 8 March, at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento in Lisbon.

Diana Pinheiro’s lab studies how embryos develop their shape, focusing on the interplay between molecular signals and tissue mechanics. Their research explores how morphogens—diffusible signals that influence cells from a distance—control cell behaviour and mechanical forces to drive embryo development.
