Johannes Popow receives the “Kirsten Peter Rabitsch Award 2012"

03 Oct 2012

This year’s “Kirsten Peter Rabitsch Award” goes to Johannes Popow who is currently a Postdoc in the lab of Javier Martinez (IMBA). Johannes, who joined the institute in 2008 as a PhD Student, receives the prize for his outstanding dissertation in which he describes the identification of the components of the human RNA ligase.

The award has been set up in 2006 in honour of Kirsten Peter Rabitsch, a former PhD Student of Kim Nasmyth at the IMP. Kirsten, who was one of the most promising young scientists, died tragically in January 2006 while travelling in Bolivia. The prize, which is worth two thousand Euros, is sponsored by the IMP and by Kirsten’s parents. It is awarded annually for the most outstanding discovery of a PhD-Student at either the IMP or IMBA and marks the beginning of the three “Recess”, an internal evaluation period.
