The Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) in Vienna pursues world-class research in basic molecular biology. It is located at the Vienna BioCenter and largely sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim. With over 250 scientists from 40 countries, the IMP is committed to scientific discovery of fundamental molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying complex biological phenomena.
The ERC-funded Balzarotti Group offers a position for a highly motivated Research Assistant, who is interested in the fields of super resolution light microscopy, photophysics, single molecule studies and optics. We develop novel optical methods and instrumentation for the observation of biological phenomena with the highest fidelity. We focus on schemes that require outstanding performance in terms of spatial and/or temporal resolution, such as super resolution fluorescence imaging and single-molecule tracking. By bringing together expertise in optics, labelling and photophysics, we develop solutions to transverse obstacles in biology and biophysics within a highly collaborative environment.
Research assistant scientific tasks:
- Tissue culture and cell preparation
- Immunostaining
- Fluorescence in-situ hybridization
- Bioconjugation chemistry
- Folding and design of DNA-Origami
- STORM, PALM and DNA-PAINT super-resolution imaging
- Protocol optimization
Research assistant managing tasks:
- Wet lab and Optics lab maintenance (organization, inventory, purchases, infrastructure, safety)
- Coordination with institute services (purchasing, facility management, etc.)
- Group organization (documentation, meeting preparation/reporting, internal activities)
Your Profile
- Training in molecular biology (e.g. Master and/or PhD)
- Experience in light microscopy (confocal and/or wide-field microscopy)
